A water treatment technology for use especially in low resource settings involving the novel use of Chitosan, a naturally derived biodegradable polysaccharide. When used as an optimized pretreatment solution, Chitosan removes 99.9% of water borne pathogens while remaining affordable, environmentally friendly, and widely accessible. Chitosan plans to implement easy-to-use kits for individual households in both developing countries and mixed and commercial markets in developed countries as well.
We aim to create a new and improved water treatment technology to overcome the waterborne viruses such as rotaviruses, noroviruses, and Hepatitis E and A viruses that cause enormous burdens of diarrhea and liver diseases, and affect billion annually worldwide.
Our solution is a product that has never been used to remove viruses from drinking water in practice and for which we have now documented effective virus removal.
